100 Inning Game for ALS

Yes, it's almost here, the 5th annual 100 inning game for ALS.  Most of you are aware, the game is at Adams Field in Quincy, MA., starting at 9:00am, Saturday, 8/30/2008 & continuing for 30+ hours until about 3:00pm on Sunday, 8/31/2008.  Please refer to > www.100innings.com < for all the details about the event.

Many umpires have expressed an interest in donating their time ( again ) to this worthy event with the majority of umpires living within an hour of Quincy, MA.  To give all the listed Boards above the opportunity to come down / up / or over to Quincy as a group, either in a pair, 3, 4, or 6 man crew, I wanted to list some timeslots ( roughly ) and I'll close slots out as Boards call / e-mail me back.  Over 200 different umpires worked for me this season ( I assigned 6,000+ games ) and since I live in Boston ( 20 minutes from Adams Field ), I'll be able to fill in odd timeslots with no problem so we can always have at least 4 umps on the field.  Also, a few guys are working late shifts Saturday night and want to work around 2-3am ( if available and needed ).  At least 4 umps from the Eastern Mass board have traditionally done the Sunday morning shift ( about 9:00am ish ), with other small requests for spots ( again, if available ) throughout t he 30+ hours.  I want to get a feel for what I need to fill in, ... we can obviously have 6 on the field at once, and if a board has more than 6 who want to participate, I can extend the timeslot so you can rotate in & out of the game.  Below are the scheduled times so get back to me by Friday, August 22nd at 9:00pm so I can send out the schedule by this Sunday night, August 24th.  If we have a great response, we can shorten the shifts to 2 hours instead of 3 hours so everyone gets in.

And, finally, as most of you are aware, this event means a great deal to me.  In the past year, I've lost 4 more friends to ALS, 3 in my own ALS clinic at BIDMC.  My scholarship fund was started to give the surviving children of patients of ALS some help and encouragement for college education.  If your Board(s) would like to make a donation of any size, click on my face on the homepage ( lower left below Curt Schilling's ) for instructions.  If individual members of your boards would also like to donate, could you send this e-mail to your people.  Thanks so much for your continued support of me and this event.
